The summer heat was on this weekend for Sevilla SUP Festival, stop #2 of the 2023 Euro Tour SUP where 168 athletes braved the waters of Guadalquivir River in the South of Spain. Dream Team riders Noic Garioud and Espe Barreras put dominated the field both taking commanding victories in the men’s and women’s elite categories.
On the women’s race, Espe did not give the other women a chance, demolishing the field by over 2:30mins. She raced the new Sprint ZERO, giving her the competitive edge;
“I just can say that riding the Sprint ZERO on that conditions is an incredible plus. Before the race I was thinking that would be a tight race, considering my strategy if it came down to an all-out sprint to the line, which is not my preferred way of racing… but from the start, I felt the extra glide & speed from the Sprint ZERO, which I kept all along the 13km and see how big I could do the gap with the train from behind.”
The men’s side was very tight with the lead group changing participants constantly. In the lead however the favorite Noic Garioud duelling it out with Bruno Hasulyo, with the two never relinquishing the lead. However, it was decided in the final 200m that the Starboard rider made a sprint and left everyone in the dust for the win. Noic raced the All Star and loved how this board handled both the flat and choppy water conditions;
“The 2023 Allstar 20.55 felt very good even on those flat conditions. At some point, the water was kind of choppy due to the number of people on the water at the same time, and having the All Star under my feet really was useful.
Can’t wait to race it in Santa Pola World SUP Festival in 12 days!”
The Euro Tour organisers were equally ecstatic about the weekend’s event;
“Yesterday was a fantastic day in the water where besides the Elites, the Junior & Amateur races were a big success with nearly a hundred participants showing again why Spain has the brightest future of SUP racing.
