How To Hold Your Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Paddle

A Stand Up Paddle (SUP) paddle normally has a tear-drop shaped blade that angled forward to maximize the power of your stroke. See below for how to hold your SUP paddle correctly.

1. PADDLE LENGTH

The paddle should be a Shaka length above your head. You can adjust the length easily with Starboard 2 piece and 3 piece adjustable shaft.

2. GRIP WIDTH

Holding the paddle above your head and bend your elbows at 90 degree will create a perfect grip width.

3. HOW TO HOLD THE PADDLE

Handle is where your top hand should be

Shaft – your bottom hand should be a little bit more than shoulder-width apart.

Blade – the blade should always flick forward for maximizing your stroke power.
