  1. Conditions: consider all swell directions, tides, winds and currents
  2. Wave Peaks: decide where the best place is to paddle out and where the best peaks are to catch a wave.
  3. Hazards: learn to recognise potential hazards such as shallow reefs, heavy current and over crowded lineups
  4. Crowds: Strategise when to avoid crowds to improve your wave count and when to brave the crowd for the best wave
