Caterina grew up in Trieste, in the north-east of Italy, between the Alps and the sea. She started windsurfing because her whole family is addicted to it – every summer they’d travel to Greece to windsurf – where she tried it a few times on her parents’ equipment. In the winter months, Caterina used to ski a lot, as she lives near the Alps. She started when she was three and it was actually her first sport.
It was only at sixteen that she windsurfed for the whole summer and fell in love with the sport. The ocean stole her heart away and ever since then she’s loved sailing, surfing, and paddling.
“In the water, I feel good and everything makes sense. After that summer I decided to move to Gran Canaria for one year to train more in windsurf.”
After that summer, Caterina’s life has changed and has since always revolved around windsurfing. After a few summers in Pozo Izquierdo, she decided to try her skills in competitions. In 2014 she joined the PWA World Tour and in 2017 the international SUP races… and never looked back having competed in races all over the world and loved every bit of them.
For the past 3 years, Caterina was living 3 months per year in Italy and for the rest, she was travelling between Cape Town and Canary Islands and when the season started – travelled to compete both in Windsurf and SUP.
“Now I am more at home and found my routine here, I’ve started combining my paddleboard training with mountain running and this gave me even more love for endurance sports. Due to the lack of races this summer I’ve started competing in mountain running and will continue to do it.”
What I love is training and playing outdoors, both in the ocean and in the mountains, it makes me feel alive.”
Caterina lives for competitions as she sees them as a great way to push her limits and improve, but it’s more than just limits – she also loves the travels, adventure, and new friendships that they bring.
