Michael Booth does it again, clinching his 5th consecutive title at the infamous 2024 Carolina Cup ‘Graveyard Race’ that took place this past weekend, hosted by Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club. Carolina Cup’s Graveyard Race is the main event, reserved for Elite paddlers who challenge themsleves on a tough 13-mile ocean and flatwater course, starting and finishing at Blockade Runner Beach Resort. Race spans ocean and inland waterways, navigating through surf, inlets, and occasional boat traffic. Michael Booth recaps his race;
“Winning my 5th consecutive Carolina Cup was one for the books. We were treated with perfect conditions for the race with light NE winds and slack tides. With varied conditions including downwind, currents, flat water, headwind, surf and beach starts the race has it all. I paddled the 21.5 2024 All star and it was ideal throughout the race managing the conditions every step of the way.
It’s always really special for me going back every year to the event that I considered the world championships for distance racing when I first started the sport. To quicken my record by another 1minute and to take a 5th title is something I would’ve never thought possible. Thanks to everyone in my corner and thanks to the Carolina Cup and the Blockade Runner for putting on an awesome event.
I’m currently doing clinics in Jupiter FL before switching over to Europe for a bunch of coaching and racing. Going to be a great couple of weeks.”
