Italian Dream Team rider Caterina Stenta took the win at the weekends Crono SUP Race, an individual TT race held the Livenza River, Sacile, in the north of Italy.
This is a rather unique race format in the sport of SUP racing whereby competitors start individually, racing 2 legs of a river which are timed individually. Racer’s set off against the river current (upstream), looking to post their best possible time without much, if any, assistance from other riders. Once competitors reach the finish, they get a 1 hr break before setting off on their own once again, albeit in the opposite direction with the river current (downstream) for the return leg. Their combined times is their final result.
It was a “Crono” format race, that is, every competitor starts separately every 30 seconds. There were two stages, one 4.6km leg against the current, then one hour break and another leg of 4,6km with the current till the starting point. The final time was the sum of the two legs.
It was in the beautiful Livenza River, set against Sacile mountains, the current was pretty strong and we raced in a field of 10 ladies.
I timed 38:19 the leg up (upstream) and 26:49 for the return (downstream).
