20 September – Last weekend saw Asia’s biggest race take over Chigasaki in Japan: The 4th annual Mynavi SUP Japan Cup was a great event, with over 300+ amateurs and a dozen international stars combining with a solid typhoon swell to create an entertaining spectacle.
There were some really interesting stories, from the sheer number of amateur paddlers, the rise of the young guns, to the awesome performances by Starboard Dream Team riders including Fiona Wylde who took the overall win and Japan’s Yuka Sato finishing in 3rd, with Daniel Hasulyo placing in a solid 2nd place in the Elite Men’s.
This years edition was the 4th time the annual Mynavi SUP Japan Cup was held at Chigasaki (one hour south of Tokyo) and was a 4-star “Regional” event of The Paddle League’s World Tour. 300+ amateurs plus a dozen top international athletes created one of Asia’s biggest-ever races. This two-day event consisted of a ’10km Challenge’ Long Distance event on the Saturday with a ‘Survivor Race’ taking place on Sunday – with combined results from both events counting towards the ‘Overall’ standings. A solid typhoon swell made for challenging but entertaining racing all weekend and didn’t stop paddlers getting out and enjoying the SUP racing.
