Starboard Dream Team rider Benoit Carpentier (Fra) has taken the win at the weekends European SUP Championships, which took place in iconic Peniche, Portugal, from October 14th to 22nd, 2023. The conditions were stellar with the wave gods sending some awesome swell to make this SUP event to be remembered. While Carpentier delivered superbly in the surfing, fellow French teammate and Starboard Dream Team rider Clement Colmas delivered excellence in the SUP racing to also take out the win. Benoit was riding the Spice 6.9″ x 24.5” with the Enduro paddle in Prepreg carbon.
Benoit is excited to regain his European Title, after narrowly missing out at last year’s event;
I am thrilled to be the 2023 European Champion after narrowly missing out last year in Denmark. It was a blast to ride the fun waves at Baleal Beach in Portugal and show off my surfing on my Starboard Spice 6.9″ x 24.5″.The final was interesting, but we didn’t get as lucky with the set waves as in other finals. I waited with priority for a set wave in the first half of the heat, then got the only real set wave of the entire heat and scored a 9. I waited until the 4-minute mark to get my backup 7-point wave. It was a slow heat, but I made great decisions and am really happy with my strategy.Now I’m looking forward to competing in the French championship next week and the APP world tour in Gran Canaria in November.”
