Duranbah Beach, Gold Coast, Australia – The waves were small, but Shak’s surfing was massive.
Shakira Westdorp has been crowned the 2017 Aussie SUP Surfing Champion and secures her 6th Australian SUP Surfing title. This was the last event for 2017 and was the event for Australian team selection for ISA Standup World Champs in 2018 which means we will see her representing Team Australia once again.
Here’s what Shak had to say;
“The conditions for day 1 were 1-2 foot peaky waves with a light onshore and there was some fun waves for the heats. I felt pretty good and made it through to the semi finals.
On finals day the swell picked up to 2-3 foot but unfortunately it was a strong onshore wind which made things pretty tricky all day.
I rode the 7’2 x 24 Pro for the event. I found a nice right early in the final and scored an 8.5. Late in the heat I saw a left and had 3 nice turns to score a 9. With that I secured my 6th Australian SUP surf title.
It was a great event and was happy to finish off a successful year with another win and qualify for the Australian SUP team. Looking forward to 2018!”
