The beautiful City of Osaka played host to the World’s very best Stand Up Paddle Athletes this past weekend, as the 2019 Osaka SUP Open Long Distance (LD) Race events took center stage on Sunday 22nd September. Day 2 kicked off bright and early in Osaka with the ‘Around the Island’ Race that would see Amateur, Pro-Am and Pro Racers come together for the signature race of the weekend around the stunning Nakanoshima Island.
From the 7km Amateur course to the 10km Pro-Am and Pro Course, the Osaka SUP Open presented by Remax will saw a record amount of SUP enthusiasts take to the water for a celebration of the sport and culture in the unique Japanese City.
For the Starboard team riders, a new race day presented another opportunity to score the needed to points to lift their overall result position for this weekend’s event. Team riders Michael Booth and Fiona Wylde took full advantage. Boothy took out the win in the men’s Pro race (up against a super stacked field) while Daniel Hasulyo‘s heroic performance saw him finish in 5th position. In the women’s Pro long-distance race, we saw Fiona’s heart fought effort saw her earn a second spot on the podium, just behind the in-form Seychelle Webster.
