The 2018 SUP 11 City Tour was once again one of the most well organized and improved SUP competitions on the calendar. The 10th Anniversary year of this prestigious event was bigger and better than ever before with increased spectators, increased participants and an ever increasing level of competition. Athletes from 28 different countries came to Friesland to challenge themselves on the most spectacular race course of the year. A 220kms pure flat water journey through lush fields around a picturesque Dutch countryside along the winding canals of The Netherlands. This paddle challenge is a true test of ones’ self, the clock, the elements, and some of the toughest endurance athletes of our sport!
Fryslan has delivered again an absolutely outstanding event compared to anything looking at the whole calendar! I would like to say a massive congratulations to my brother Bruno! Thanks to the new time trial format we truly pushed super hard on many days of the event and we witnessed new time records along the course.

The Hungarian duo of Bruno and Daniel Hasulyo once again both had phenomenal performances to once again take the 1-2 podium positions for the 3rd consecutive year at this year’s event. After five days and a gruelling 220kms later, Bruno Hasulyo has shown superhuman endurance to claim his 2nd SUP 11 City Tour from brother Daniel in a time of 21h21m and 21h24min respectively, and an impressive 35 mins ahead of 3rd place finisher & Italian Starboard Teammate Martino Rogai in a total time of 22:00.
This year the race was a little different, the organizers added 2 time trial days (individual starts and no drafting allowed). The first-day stage was a lengthy 43km leg so working with my brother Daniel we managed to break away from all the other riders, and finally finishing the day with a significant lead. We also achieved our goal of holding an average speed of 10km/h!

In the women’s race, it was Japan’s Yuko Sato for Team Starboard who was looking unstoppable until the 5th and final stage of the event. The final day was a time trial format which saw USA rider Seychelle Hatting out paddle Yuka in the individual time trial to take the overall elite women’s title. Yuka has risen well and has been in great form more much of this season but experience may have played a big part of her first SUP 11 Cities Tour this year. We know Yuka will be back next year and hungry to claim this title so keep an eye out on this rising star!
