Maui Waterman, Zane Schweitzer, just finished 3rd overall in the new longboard SUP division at the APP World Tour’s stop Gran Canaria Pro-Am ~ narrowly missing out on the final with teammate Benoit Carpentier.
Zane was riding the Starboard Longboard SUP in the timeless Limited Series construction with his prepreg carbon Eduro paddle.
Zane is well-known for his longboard ripping as much as his big wave riding and has much love for the new longboard format. Here’s what he has to say;
“Leco Salazar took me out in the Semi Final but I was very close to advance surfing with good strategy and combination of noserides and powerful turns. I was waiting for the wave I needed in the end, I had a great opening nose ride and a solid close-out section to hit off the top, but just came unstuck from this finishing maneuver.
This was the ticket to the final and I am beating myself up for sure. Watched the live replays and feel I could have easily secured that heat, but especially missed the opportunity with the mistake I mentioned above coming unstuck on my finishing turn.
Considering riding all borrowed gear and a board from Benoit that I only got to ride during this competition I am happy to at least make the podium. I’m now very fired up on the new Longboard SUP Benoit has and it worked great.
Loving the LB SUP format they are introducing in the APP, sounds like they will continue with the format and division moving forward for the tour in 2023. I believe it is great for our sport, and especially the growth of our sport.”
